This 1 year old bull moose was busy eating the bark off of the Aspen Tree you see behind him. I am not sure why he was still eating on the trees when the grass and willows were quite green. |MC4-0472

During the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush thousands of prospectors floated down the Yukon River from Bennett Lake to Dawson City, and the gold fields. Five Finger Rapids was a major obstacle along this 800 mile journey, and many miners ended up in the water after choosing the wrong channel. |MC40-0496

This is a Barren-Ground Grizzly crossing the tundra on the North Slope between the Brooks Range and the Arctic Ocean. This bear is at the northern limit of where it is possible for it to live. Living this far north will force it to hibernate for 6 to 7 months each winter. The picture certainly does not do it justice. It was a drop dead beautiful bear. |MC42-0306

Sage Grouse are the largest of all North American grouse, and are well known for their courtship displays which they perform each spring on communal leks or strutting grounds. These leks are generally open clearings in the surronding sagebrush, often on a small knoll. Birds will start flying into these leks in complete darkness, at least 1/2 hour before any hint of sunrise. The dominant males at the center of the lek will mate with the majority of the females. |MC3-0443
