Job Summary:

The Roofer Lead is responsible for overseeing a team of roofers during the inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of various roofing systems, including asphalt shingles, metal panels, TPO, EPDM, and other low- and steep-slope systems. This hands-on leadership role ensures work is completed according to company standards, safety regulations, and project specifications. The Roofer Lead conducts roof inspections, reports damage, and ensures quality control throughout all phases of the roofing process. This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members, clients, and supervisors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assign daily tasks and delegate responsibilities to crew members.

  • Train and mentor roofers on safe practices, techniques, and equipment use.

  • Monitor crew productivity and quality of workmanship throughout the project.

  • Conduct daily safety briefings and ensure adherence to OSHA standards.

  • Inspect completed work and correct any deficiencies.

  • Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are used efficiently and safely.

  • Maintain accurate records of job progress, incidents, timesheets, and material usage.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Conduct roof inspections to assess damage, wear, and necessary repairs.

  • Interpret blueprints and specifications to plan installation tasks.

  • Install roofing systems using appropriate tools and methods, including tear-offs, underlayment, flashing, and final roofing material.

  • Identify roof leaks, flashing failures, or structural issues and determine repair strategies.

  • Coordinate delivery and staging of materials.

  • Operate roofing equipment (ladders, nail guns, hoists, safety harnesses) safely and efficiently.

  • Communicate with project managers and clients about job status, issues, or change orders.

  • Implement safety protocols and ensure all crew members use PPE and fall protection.

  • Perform quality assurance checks and maintain a clean, organized jobsite.

  • Troubleshoot roofing issues and collaborate with supervisors to resolve construction challenges.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (or ability to obtain)

  • Fall Protection & Ladder Safety Training (preferred)

  • Valid Driver’s License

Experience:
  • 5+ years of roofing experience in residential and/or commercial projects

  • 2+ years in a lead or supervisory roofing role

  • Proven experience with multiple roofing systems and materials

  • Experience reading blueprints and technical documents

  • Familiarity with local building codes and roofing regulations

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of roofing installation and repair techniques

  • Ability to assess roof damage and identify appropriate solutions

  • Skilled in reading blueprints and roof plans

  • Proficient in the safe use of roofing tools and equipment

  • Ability to lead and train team members

  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Clear communication skills to coordinate with team and supervisors

  • Understanding of OSHA and fall protection standards

  • Ability to work in high, confined, or angled spaces safely

  • Strong physical endurance and ability to work in various weather conditions
